If you were thinking of skipping NBC’s live musical performance of Peter Pan, they may have just found a way to hook you into watching. (Sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves.) Academy Award winner and Emmy nominee Christopher Walken has signed on to play everyone’s favorite chronomentrophobic pirate, Captain Hook.
"He's one of the most unique actors in our business," says Bob Greenblatt, NBC Entertainment chairman. "He might really just be a song and dance man at heart. . . This might be the first tap dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."
The actress who will play Peter Pan has yet to be revealed – Kristen Bell had been tapped to play the title role, but backed out due to contract conflicts. Meanwhile, Walken as Hook will reunite with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron after his starring role in their adaptation of Hairspray.
"I started my career in musicals and it’s wonderful after all this time, at this point in my career, to be in this classic musical I watched as a child and to work with Neil Meron and Craig Zadan again after Hairspray,” says Walken. “It’s a chance to put on my tap shoes again."
