The Stork has been accruing major bonus miles this year. While some stars have stayed out of the spotlight as much as possible, others have openly shared their love on social media and magazine spreads across North America.
Here's our 2014 Year in Review of famous babes of Generation Alpha:
Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher
Born: October 1
The former That ‘70s Show stars make two of the cutest parents on the planet. Although Wyatt is only several months old, to date they haven’t hired any nannies or night nurses to help with their daughter’s load.
In an interview with Conan O’Brien, Kutcher revealed that the name Wyatt was a completely random revelation; he and Kunis had a different name in mind long before they were even pregnant. But, as is often the case, it didn’t suit their little girl and they changed it up. Her middle name is in honor of Mila’s grandfather, who was Yitzhak.
The couple also doesn’t seem to be too concerned about their daughter’s online privacy. After she was born they bought all domains that had any iteration of her name, and the @KutcherWyatt Twitter feed is full of retweets of the kid’s parents and fans.
Esmeralda Amada Gosling
Born: September 16
Ryan Gosling won’t just be saying “Hey girl,” to the female fans anymore, now that he’s got a little daughter to take care of. He and Eva Mendes were so top secret about their pregnancy that no one even knew they were expecting until Mendes was seven months along. She spent most of that time hidden away from cameras, alongside their vast extended family.
Their reasoning is pretty clear: because they have almost no privacy, they’re trying to start their daughter off as unanimously as possible, away from all of the celebrity hoopla.
For now, there are no nannies on board just yet — only lots of help from siblings. But Mendes has admitted that she reads all the comments on BabyCenter.com so that she feels less alone.
As for the name? The couple says they just both really liked Victor Hugo’s Esmeralda character in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, while Amada was Mendes's grandmother's name, which in Spanish means 'beloved.'
Charlotte Clinton Mezvinsky
Born: September 26
Parents: Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky
Baby Charlotte was the subject of media fodder long before she was even born—POTUS even jokingly offered Ms. Clinton his presidential motorcade if she needed it on the way to the hospital. Beating everyone to the punch when she was born, Chelsea and Marc tweeted out a picture of the new baby and followed it up shortly after with a brief live Twitter Q&A.
Although it’s way too early to tell what Charlotte’s political aspirations will be, one thing is for sure: she has some pretty high expectations set out ahead of her, what with grandfather being a former president and her grandmother’s non-campaign for the position in the near future. Something tells us we’ll be seeing a lot more of baby Charlotte in the near future.
Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha
Born: April 21
Parents: Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha
Although Kerry Washington has become a high profile star thanks to her groundbreaking role on ABC’s Scandal, the Olivia Pope portrayer is extremely private in real life.
Not only did the actress manage to keep her wedding to Asomugha secret, but no one even knew that Washington had given birth until two weeks after the fact. “Isabelle is here,” she simply wrote in an email to close friends and co-stars.
Since then their little girl hasn’t been seen much in public, save for a trip to Disney’s California Adventure Park when she was roughly three months old. That’s keeping in tune with how Washington’s pregnancy was “handled” on her series, too; Pope’s tummy was covered for much of Season 3, as the character handled many files and wore stylish ponchos.
Born: April 22
Parents: Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman
Barrymore grew up as an only child, and always knew she wanted to give her daughter Olive a brother or sister. She got that wish earlier this year when Frankie was born.
Although the little girl arrived in the spring, her parents were careful not to expose her to media too early, opting to wait until June, when a spread in People magazine was revealed. Barrymore also took to social media at that time, where she posed for a pic with her girls while wearing a “Mother of Dragons,” Game of Thrones inspired T-shirt.
Barrymore also spoke candidly about her food cravings, admitting to eating a lot of pizza and Chinese food. As soon as Frankie (her name reminds Barrymore of her mother-in-law’s maiden name, Franco), was born however, Barrymore was all about the veggies and fish.
Otis Alexander Sudeikis
Born: April 20
Joining the trend of parents announcing their baby’s birth on Twitter, Olivia Wilde had one of the cutest messages of all:
“Ladies and gentlemen,” she tweeted. “Otis Alexander Sudeikis has LEFT the building! (I’m the building).”
Since then, the mom has been anything but shy with her baby boy, taking him out for strolls only a week after leaving the hospital (although she did have his face covered from the photogs), and tweeting about breast pumps.
Fans also have a completely different calendar date to bet on now, too: when Wilde and Sudeikis will officially go from an engaged couple to a married one.
Vale Guthrie Feldman
Born: August 13
Parents: Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman
Ever since this babe was born, there’s been a new contender for cutest father ever: Mr. Michael Feldman. The proud papa and Today contributor has been quite vocal about his love for Vale, even publishing a very touching letter about it on Today Parents.
Savannah has been just as open about becoming a parent, sharing photos of Vale live on air and talking candidly about how leaving on maternity leave changed her as a person.
“I feel basically like myself, but hopefully a little bit better,” she said on-air. “Softer. More patient. Kinder. Gentler.”
Avri Roel Downey
Born: November 4
Parents: Robert and Downey Jr. and Susan Downey
This little bundle, pronounced “Ay-very,” not “Ah-vrey” had a very special introduction to the world — one that may make her cringe when she’s older.
“After 9 months of intensive development, Team Downey is pleased to announce our 2014 fall/winter project,” Downey wrote on his Facebook wall. “Principal photography commenced 11-14 and will continue until she says, ‘Dad! You are embarrassing me...I'm 30, this has gotta stop.’
“Yep...Avri Roel Downey joined the party @ 3:22 a.m. on November 4th...she's 7lbs even, spans 20 inches, and is accompanied by a variety of Susan's traits that have seemingly overwritten my ‘junk DNA.’ I'll post pics here + there when I'm not too busy staring...”
True to his word, the proud papa has been sharing pics of his little gal ever since. You can’t blame him: although he has two sons from previous marriages (Indio with Deborah Falconer and Exton with Susan Levin), this is his first daughter.
Bodhi Ransom Green
Born: February 12
Fox and Green loved being parents so much that they didn’t wait long after the birth of their son Noah to have Bodhi (they also parent 12-year-old Kassius from Green’s previous relationship with Vanessa Marcil).
Somehow in between, the stars managed to keep busy with a variety of projects, including this past summer’s remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in which Fox played April O’Neil, and the second season of Anger Management, in which Green plays one of Charlie Sheen’s onscreen nemeses/buddies.
Although it seems like an unusual name, Bodhi is a Buddhist word for "enlightened."
Alena Rose Jonas
Born: February 2
Parents: Kevin Jonas and Danielle Jonas
It’s clear that this baby is going to be as big of a star as the rest of her family. Since her birth, the little girl has been splashed all over Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr where her proud family showcases her at every opportunity. Proving that he really is one of the proudest pops out there (and maybe has some odd privacy boundaries), Jonas even live-tweeted the birth so that fans could stay in the know. Today, the most intimate updates Alena seems to be a part of is when mom and baby do their hair together at the bathroom mirror. (Fuzzy-headed Alena most watches from her Bumbo seat.)
Eric Philip Cowell
Born February 14
Parents: Simon Cowell and Lauren Silverman
It seemed liked most of the world knew about Eric before he was born, thanks to news that Cowell was fathering the child of his friend Andrew’s wife, Lauren Silverman. But according to Cowell, everything that followed was worth it. That’s in part why he named his son after his father, whom he would call whenever anything good happened.
True to form, Cowell hasn’t shied away from the media since everything broke. He has been candid about the fact that before he learned about his son, he had been dealing with clinical depression and was on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Despite the newfound happiness that Eric has brought to Cowell’s life, though, it doesn’t change one thing: Cowell still has no interest in changing diapers. He has a “good baby nurse,” he told The Sun.
Oliver Finlay Dallas
Born: May 29
Parents: Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas
When you’re co-stars on a hit TV show (Once Upon a Time), it’s hard to keep anything a secret for long, especially from producers. As such, Goodwin and Dallas had their real life pregnancy written into the series, giving little Oliver a leg-up in the fairytale world that most kids would love to have.
He also spends a lot of time on-set in Vancouver, Canada where the show is filmed. There, he has his very own Star Wars-themed trailer on the lot so that his parents can visit every few hours. Or whenever the little Force Awakens, perhaps?
Despite the hours he clocks in close proximity to the cameras, Oliver’s future endeavors won’t have anything to do with the industry if his parents have a say. “We are going to gently nudge him in any direction but acting,” Goodwin told E! Online.
No word on whether that includes reality television; the doctor who delivered Oliver, Dr. Paul Crane, appeared on several episodes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and handled Kourtney and Kim’s pregnancies.
