Julia A. Whitehead is the founder and CEO of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. Her background includes serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and writing and editing for Random House, Inc., Military Officers Association of America, and the state legislatures of both South Carolina and Indiana. Whitehead taught English to 100 children in Thailand in 2000 and worked for nearly nine years as a medical writer for Eli Lilly and Co. before leaving Lilly to open the Vonnegut Library.
Whitehead’s favorite Vonnegut Book is God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater. Her favorite Vonnegut character is the little boy “Joe” from the short story DP in Welcome to the Monkey House. Julia’s heart breaks every time she reads this story, yet she continues to reread it.
