In December of 1803, Camp Wood was established near St. Louis, Missouri. At Camp Wood, Lewis and Clark would recruit hunters and craftsmen from Kentucky. Camp was often rowdy and harsh punishments were handed out so that Lewis and Clark could make sure these men would do as they were told. During this time, Lewis and Clark devoted themselves to learning more about the Native American trading system.
