The Impressionists: Capturing the Moment, Pt. 2
The movement is revived when wealthy Americans begin to buy Impressionist paintings. The 1886 New York show proved a resounding success. Finally by the 1890s, Impressionist works even begin to sell in France. By the time of Monet's death in 1926, the last of the Impressionists to go, the Surrealist movement had pulled art fully from its 19th-century moorings. But the modern art revolution began with the groundbreaking, and still exquisite, work of Renoir, Monet, Pissarro, Degas, and Morisot.
