Episode Description
Marshall Mathers, also known as Eminem, is perhaps one of music's greatest rappers. His career got its initial start from a chance meeting with Wendy Day, founder of the Rap Coalition. Wendy got Eminem to enter a competition in Los Angeles called the Rap Olympics, where Marshall fought a war of words in an attempt to ground himself in the hip-hop community. Unfortunately, he lost. However Marshall's demo found it's way into the hands of Interscope CEO Jimmy Iovine and rapper producer Dr. Dre--who requested to meet young Marshall immediately. They began producing songs and created Eminem's first album, the Slim Shady LP, writing various songs within hours. The premiere song from that album, "My Name Is" was shown on MTV, and turned the newly named Eminem into an overnight success, becoming the most influential Caucasian hip-hop artist of all time.
