Willie Mays biography
Profile
Born on May 6, 1931, in Westfield, Alabama, Willie Howard Mays began playing baseball shortly after the sport was de-segregated. Willie Mays was exceptional at both batting and fielding. He played in the minor leagues for only two seasons before he was picked up by the New York Giants in 1951. By the end of that season, he had been named "Rookie of the Year." Mays played for the Giants (which relocated to San Francisco in the late 1950s, becoming the San Francisco Giants) until 1972, when he was traded to the New York Mets. Following 1973 season with the Mets, Mays retired from the sport.
