Wilhelm Reich was a psychiatrist who developed psychoanalysis that concentrated on overall character structure rather than on individual symptoms.
In The Function of the Orgasm (1927), Wilhelm Reich argued that achieving orgasm was an essential attribute of the healthy individual. Following the publication of research that was extremely unconventional, Reich was accused of scientific charlatanism and in 1939 was forced to flee Norway. In the U.S., he died in prison after ignoring a court injunction against distributing his products and books.
