At age 25, Walter White joined the NAACP national staff and, as he rose in the organization, waged a long and ultimately successful campaign against the lynching of blacks by white mobs in the United States. Also, at the outbreak of WWII, White pressed for a U.S. Fair Employment Practices Committee that would act to ban discrimination in government and wartime industry.
