Barbary Coast (1935) was Walter Brenan’s first of his seven collaborations with director Howard Hawks, but his breakthrough role was that of the Swedish lumberman Swan Bostrom in Come and Get It (1936), which earned for him his first Best Supporting Actor Academy Award. Continuing to flourish into the 1950s, Brennan also became a TV star on The Real McCoys, which ran for 224 episodes.
