Vo Nguyen Giap biography

Profile

Vo Nguyen Giap's strategies led to victory in the decisive battle at Dien Bien Phu, which ended the French colonialist regime. In a divided Vietnam, Giap became deputy PM, minister of defense and commander in chief of the armed forces of North Vietnam. He later led the military forces of the north to eventual victory in the Vietnam War, compelling the Americans to leave the country in 1973.
