Tommy Dorsey was an American trombonist and band leader born on November 19, 1905, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. Dorsey came from a musical family and as a child learned the play the trumpet and trombone. With his brother Jimmy, they became known as The Dorsey Brothers. In the 1930s and 1940s they played and recorded in a number of bands during the Big Band period and helped to usher in the Swing era. The brothers appeared on a television series, Stage Show, from 1955-'56. Dorsey died on November 26, 1956, in Greenwich, Connecticut.
