Tom Daschle biography

Born in South Dakota, Tom Daschle served in the Air Force before being elected to the U.S House of Representatives in 1978. In 1986, he was elected to the Senate. He was an early supporter of Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy, and was offered the position of Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services after the 2008 election. He withdrew his name in 2009 due to controversies.
