Tom C. Clark, born on September 23, 1899 in Dallas, Texas, eventually became Attorney General under President Harry Truman, who nominated Clark for the Supreme Court in 1949 and later critiqued Clark’s rulings. Clark was the first Texan to be appointed a Justice and ruled that segregated schools were unconstitutional, though his decisions fell on both sides of the political divide. Clark died on June 13, 1977, in New York, New York.
