Thomas Gainsborough was an 18th century English painter known for his suggestive portraiture and landscapes.
Painter Thomas Gainsborough was born in Sudbury, England, on May 14, 1727, and studied with French artists during his adolescence. Though quite fond of landscape painting, leaving work that would influence future generations, Gainsborough took to creating beautiful, distinctive portraiture to earn income. He eventually set up shop in Bath and then London, and was a member of The Royal Academy. Gainsborough died on August 2, 1788, in London, England.
