Thomas Carlyle was a Scottish essayist, historian and satirical writer. His best know works include Life of Schiller, Sartor Resartus and The French Revolution.
Thomas Carlyle was born on December 4, 1795, in Galloway, Scotland. From 1823–'24, he published installments of a Life of Schiller in London Magazine. From 1833–'34, he published Sartor Resartus. When he published The French Revolution in 1837, he became a prominent writer of his day. His later works included a biography of Frederick the Great. Carlyle died on February 5, 1881 in London, England.
