Journalist Theodor Herzl responded to the anti-Semitism he witnessed while covering the Dreyfus Affair by starting the World Zionist Organization.
Theodor Herzl was born on May 2, 1860, in Budapest, Hungary. From 1879 to 1882, he was a journalist for Allgemeine Zeitung of Vienna. Afterward, he became a correspondent for the Vienna Neue Freie Presse in Paris and covered the Dreyfus Affair. In response to the anti-Semitism he witnessed, he started the World Zionist Organization and served as its president. He died on July 3, 1904, in Edlach, Austria.
