Steve Lacy biography
Synopsis
Steve Lacy was born on July 23, 1934, in New York City. Beginning his musical career in Dixieland Jazz, Lacy played the soprano saxophone and became a famous sideman during the 1950s. In 1960, he recorded with Thelonius Monk, and his Soprano Today (1957) was the first of several recordings dedicated to Monk's work. Lacy died in 2004.
