Samuel Goldwyn was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1879. Orphaned as a child, Goldwyn grew up poor. He left Poland for America, where he worked in a glove factory before co-founding the Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company. This production house released Hollywood's first feature-length film, The Squaw Man, in 1914. For 35 years, Goldwyn was a powerful film producer, working with legendary Hollywood talents such as William Wyler and Dorothy Parker. He died on January 31, 1974, in Los Angeles, California.
