Sam Rayburn biography

Sam Rayburn was an American politician born on January 6, 1882, in Kingston, Tennessee. After college, he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 1906. Afterwards, his career took off and he became both the Speaker of the House and Democratic Representative to the United States House of Representatives (1912). Rayburn held several high profile positions throughout his career, including Majority Leader to Congress (1937) and Chairman of the National Democratic Convention (1940s-'50s). Rayburn served a total of 48 years in Washington D.C. and died on November 16, 1961.
