Salvatore Quasimodo is one of the foremost Italian poets of the 20th century, well-known as the leader of the Hermetic poets. He was fiery and powerful in his verse, commenting on the horrors of World War II, as well as other modern social issues. In 1959, he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. He also published an impressive and broad range of translations.
