Rube Foster was a baseball player and manager who organized the Negro National League, the first long-lasting professional league for African American players.
Rube Foster became famous in 1920 when he founded the Negro National League, the first successful professional baseball league for African American players. He dropped out of school after eighth grade and by 18 was playing for the Waco Yellow Jackets. He was a phenomenal pitcher. He played, managed and owned the Chicago American Giants, one the greatest teams in the history of black baseball.
