Profile

Roy Campanella was American baseball player who started out on Philadelphia's sandlots and by the age 15 was signed on to the Negro leagues. In 1946, he was asked to join the New York Dodgers farm team, making him one of the first professional black players (he was also half Italian). He played as catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1949 until 1957, when an auto accident left him paralyzed.
