Robert Morris, Jr was an American merchant and banker who came to be known as the financier of the American Revolution. Morris raised the funds in 1781 that made it possible for General George Washington to move his army to Yorktown, where Lord Cornwallis surrendered. He fell into bankruptcy when he invested heavily in land speculation and disposed of his mercantile and banking investments.
