French jurist and lawyer René Cassin is best known for his involvement in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
French jurist and lawyer René Cassin, born on October 5, 1887, in Bayonne, France, was the president of the European Court of Human Rights and is best known for his involvement in the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. After the fall of France in June 1940, he joined General Charles de Gaulle in London and served as a key member of the Free French government in exile. Cassin won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1968.
