Philip Glass was born on January 31, 1937, in Baltimore, Maryland. He studied math and philosophy before pursuing music at the Juilliard School in New York City. Glass became a prolific and widely respected composer. His early work, which utilized complex and repetitive structures, is associated with the minimalist movement. His compositions include "Einstein on the Beach," "The Photographer" and "Koyaanisqatsi." He lives in New York and Nova Scotia.
