Peter Lorre is a Hungarian-born film actor often typecast as a sinister foreigner. He was first recognized internationally for his portrayal of the psychotic murderer in M. In 1954 he became the first actor to play the James Bond villan Le Chiffre in a television adaptation of Casino Royale. Lorre suffered from chronic gallbladder pain and was addicted to morphine. He died of a stroke at age 60.
