Poet and playwright Pedro Calderón de la Barca is generally regarded as one of Spain's finest dramatists. He initiated what many call the second style of Spanish Golden Age theater, publishing and perfecting the dramatic forms and genres that his predecessor, Lope de Vega, established. He paid special attention to the dramatic structure of his plays such as Life is a Dream and The Phantom Lady.
