Otto Preminger was born on December 5, 1906, in Vienna, Austria where he directed Max Reinhardt’s theatre. In 1935, he came to the U.S. to direct Libel on Broadway. In 1944, he directed the Hollywood thriller Laura, which helped establish film noir. Preminger created his own production company and made movies that challenged censorship at the time. He died on April 23, 1986, in New York City.
