Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi biography
Born on November 23, 1987, in Santiago, Chile, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi is known as one of the stars of Jersey Shore, an MTV reality show that aired from 2009 to 2012. She has also appeared on a spinoff show, written a number of books and overseen a line of fashion accessories. On August 26, 2012, she had a baby, Lorenzo Dominic LaValle, with Jionni LaValle.
Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi was born on November 23, 1987, in Santiago, Chile. She came to the United States after being adopted as a baby by an Italian-American couple, Andy and Helen Polizzi. As a teenager, friends gave her the nickname "Snooki," which was inspired by a male character in Julia Stiles's 2001 movie, Save the Last Dance.
Snooki attended high school in Marlboro, New York, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad. During high school, she overcame an eating disorder. After graduating, she enrolled in community college and studied to be a veterinary technician. However, another career opportunity soon appeared.
In 2008, MTV producers were searching for the cast of a new reality show about "Guidos and Guidettes" at the Jersey Shore. Snooki reportedly wowed the network with her audition, in which the outspoken 4'9" brunette—coated in bronzer and coifed in her signature poof—spoke candidly about sex and alcohol.
When Jersey Shore began airing in 2009, it quickly became one of the highest-rated shows on the network, and Snooki was its breakout star. After six seasons, the show ended in December 2012; Snooki remained on MTV in a spinoff show, Snooki & Jwoww. In September 2013, she began appearing as one of the contestants in the 17th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Success on television helped Snooki launch her own lines of fashion accessories and beauty products. Her book, A Shore Thing (2011), was a New York Times best-seller. She has also authored Confessions of a Guidette and Gorilla Beach.
On August 26, 2012, Snooki and fiancé Jionni LaValle had a baby boy, Lorenzo Dominic LaValle. Though Snooki's past includes some wild behavior—including an arrest for disorderly conduct in 2010—she told People magazine in 2012, "Lorenzo has made me a better person. I'm so much more mature. He's just my life."
