Nick Lachey biography
Born on November 9, 1973, in Harlan, Kentucky, Nick Lachey first rose to fame by singing in the boy band 98 Degrees. But Lachey's popularity skyrocketed when he married pop princess Jessica Simpson and turned their newlywed years into reality TV. After a much-publicized split, Lachey produced a hit solo album and later married actress/model Vanessa Minnillo. The two had a son in 2012.
German-American couple Cate Fopma-Leimbach and John Lachey had son Nicholas Scott Lachey on November 9, 1973, in Harlan, Kentucky. Lachey was primarily raised in Ohio, where he entered the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati with an eye on a singing future. But he was a serious sports aficionado too, and took a detour from performing to study sports medicine at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Forming 98 Degrees
Lachey's passion for music won out over his love of sports when another Ohio native, Jeff Timmons, convinced him to be part of a new vocal group, 98 Degrees. In 1995, Lachey's high school chum Justin Jeffre joined too, as did his younger brother Drew Lachey. Within two years, this boy band signed with Motown Records. The pop quartet was on a roll in the 1990s, with five albums (selling 10 million) and such hits as "Because of You," "The Hardest Thing" and "Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)." They also did duets with big stars like Mariah Carey.
The Jessica Simpson Years
The 29-year-old hit superstardom outside the band when he got hitched to 22-year-old pop singer Jessica Simpson on October 26, 2002. But it wasn't just the nuptials that earned him attention; it was also MTV's reality show Nick & Jessica: Newlyweds, which followed the couple's time together. However, their union lasted only three years before they announced divorce plans. The heartbreak was good for Lachey's music career, as he put out the emotional album What's Left of Me, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200 in its first week. (This surpassed the chart performance of his 2003 solo album, SoulO, by far.)
Family Man Time
The video for Lachey's song "What's Left of Me" starred Vanessa Minnillo, the 1998 Miss Teen USA winner turned MTV personality and TV host. Soon Lachey was in love again; he became engaged to Minnillo in 2010. On July 15, 2011, the 37-year-old married his 30-year-old bride. On September 12, 2012, they welcomed son Camden John into their lives.
A Well-Rounded Life
The on-the-move dad has also kept busy in recent years hosting The Sing-Off, a competition show with a cappella groups, becoming part owner of Triple-A baseball team the Tacoma Rainiers (affiliate of the Seattle Mariners) and running the Nick Lachey Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping kids, families and communities in the United States. In 2013, he was busy performing as part of the Package tour with his band 98 degrees, along with fellow boy bands New Kids On The Block and Boyz II Men.
