Born July 4, 1927, Neil Simon began as a comedy writer for various television shows. In 1961 his autobiographical play Come Blow Your Horn was a smash on Broadway. He followed up with more successes, including Barefoot in the Park (1963), The Odd Couple (1965) and the autobiographical Brighton Beach Memoirs (1983). Simon also provided librettos for musicals, including Sweet Charity (1966).
