Mouskouri's recording of "The White Rose of Athens" (1962) became a major European hit and in the early 1970s she had a series of hit albums in the United Kingdom. During her accomplished career she has recorded over 1000 songs and received numerous gold and platinum discs. Mouskouri has recorded songs in several languages, including Greek, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, and Hebrew.
Mouskour was also a member of the European Parliament (1994–9).
