Melvil Dewey biography

Melvil Dewey was born on December 10, 1851 in Adams Center, New York. He graduated from Amherst College, and was their acting librarian. In 1876 he outlined his Dewey Decimal Classification system for cataloging books and library materials. He was a founder of the American Library Association, the Library Journal and he set up the first US institution for training librarians. Dewey died in 1931.
