Maurice Merleau-Ponty was a French philosopher and man of letters, the leading exponent of phenomenology in France.
Maurice Merleau-Ponty was born on March 14, 1908 in Rochefort, France. Merleau-Ponty was an officer during WWII, and was an unofficial co-editor of the journal Les Temps Modernes with Jean-Paul Sartre. His most important works of philosophy include The Structure of Behavior and Phenomenology of Perception. He wrote a defense of Soviet communism, but was disillusioned after the Korean War. He died on May 3, 1961, in Paris, France.
