Best known for his work on the vibraphone, Lionel Hampton was also a skilled drummer, pianist and singer. As a member of Benny Goodman’s group, he made some of his best records, taking memorable solos on such songs as “Dizzy Spells” and “Moonglow.” He also held recording sessions with such legendary musicians as Coleman Hawkins, Benny Carter and Nat Cole, creating some of the best jazz of the era.
