After Leo Strauss immigrated to the U.S. in 1938 he taught political science at the New School for Social Research, the University of Chicago, Claremont Men's College and St. John's College. He wrote several books on such political philosophers as Thomas Hobbes, Niccolò Machiavelli, Benedict de Spinoza and Socrates, such as On Tyranny, Natural Right and History and What Is Political Philosophy?
