Joseph Hooker biography

Joseph Hooker was born November 13, 1814 in Hadley, Massachusetts. In 1862 he participated in all the major Eastern campaigns of the Civil War. When General A.E. Burnside resigned from the Army of the Potomac, Hooker succeeded him. at the Battle of Chancellorsville he was outmaneuvered. In 1863, he won the “Battle Above the Clouds," after which he ceased to play an active part in the war.
