Jon Lord biography
Born on June 9, 1941 in Leicester, England, Jon Lord began playing with the English hard-rock band Deep Purple in the late 1960s. Lord played keyboard for the band, which also Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Roger Glover, recording and performing the songs "Demon's Eye" and "Space Truckin'," among several others. Deep Purple disbanded in the mid-1970s, but reunited in the mid-'80s. After nearly a decade with Deep Purple, in the late '70s, Lord went on to play with the rock group Whitesnake, performing alongside singer David Coverdale.
Lord died on July 16, 2012, at the age of 71, after suffering a fatal pulmonary embolism in London. He had been fighting cancer for several months, prior to his death. In August 2011, Lord posted a message to his fans on his website, regarding about his health and music career: "I will be continuing to write music. In my world, it just has to be part of the therapy."
