Born on April 14, 1904, in London, John Gielgud became a renowned Shakespearean stage actor who would go on to star in dozens of screen projects. Prominent films and TV work included Beckett, Caligula, The Elephant Man, War and Remembrance, Prospero’s Books, Shine and Elizabeth. Gielgud received an Oscar for his role in Dudley Moore’s Arthur and an Emmy for Summer’s Lease. He died on May 21, 2000.
