Born on November 29, 1849, in Lancaster, England, John Ambrose Fleming went on to work as a consultant and electrical engineering professor. He later invented the thermionic valve, also known as the Fleming valve or vacuum tube, which led to major developments in the field of electronics. Knighted in the late 1920s and a prolific author, Fleming died on April 18, 1945.
