Jim Thorpe was a Native American professional football and baseball player, known for his all-around athleticism. He was a gold-medal runner at the 1912 Olympics.
Jim Thorpe was born on May 28, 1888 in Prague, Oklahoma. In 1908, while playing football with the Carlisle Indians, he was chosen as third-team All-American. At the 1912 Olympics, he brought home gold medals for his running. In 1913, his medals were revoked on a technicality. Following the Olympics, he played professional baseball and football. Thorpe died on March 28, 1953 in Lomita, California.
