Jeane Kirkpatrick (b. Nov. 19, 1926 in Duncan, OK) was the first American female ambassador to the U.N. A longtime Democrat-turned-Republican, she fervidly opposed communism and served as Ronald Reagan's foreign policy adviser. She is widely remember for her "Kirkpatrick Doctrine," which argued for U.S. support of anticommunist governments worldwide, not excluding authoritarian dictatorships.
