Jean-Leon Gerome was a French painter, sculptor, and teacher. His best-known works are scenes inspired by his travels in Egypt.
Born in Veoul in 1824, Jean-Leon Gerome was a French painter, sculptor, and teacher. His best-known works are scenes inspired by his travels in Egypt. His particular style is now known as Academicism, work influenced by European academies or universities, specifically Academie des Beaux-Arts. He started off as a painter and ended his career mostly as a sculptor.
