Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres biography

Profile

Jean August Dominique Ingres was a French painter of the Neoclassical period. He thought of himself an historical painter, eschewing the Romantic style of his day, but his legacy is seated in his famous portraits of high-society figures and female nudes. Some of his most well-known paintings are Napoleon on His Imperial Throne and The Vow of Louis XIII. He opened his own studio in Paris in 1825.
