James Otis biography
Born on February 5, 1725, in Barnstable, Massachusetts, James Otis was an American political activist and lawyer in colonial Massachusetts during the period leading up to the American Revolution. The phrase "Taxation without representation is tyranny" is usually attributed to him. Otis helped formulate and draft official colonists' grievances that he sent to the government in England on their behalf. He was struck by lightening and died in 1783.
