James Michener was an American novelist and story-story writer who penned Tales of the South Pacific, a work that won him a Pulitzer Prize in 1947. ichener's early career as a naval historian in the South Pacific inspired his early writings. He is best known for his epic novels that required extensive research, including Chesepeake (1978), Mexico (1992), and Space (1982). He died in 1997.
