James Ivory is an American film director who is well-remembered for pictures he made with Ismail N. Merchant, including A Room with a View and The Remains of the Day. The two created cinema's longest-lasting partnership, Merchant Ivory Productions, and worked with screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala several times. Ivory's films were notable for their attention to period detail, winning six Oscars.
