James Edward Oglethorpe biography

Born on December 22, 1696, in London, England, James E. Oglethorpe went on to be elected to his country’s parliament in 1722, serving for more than three decades. He pushed for penal reform and an end to slavery and impressment. He travelled to America in 1733 and founded Savannah, the colony that would become Georgia. Returning to England in the mid-1740s, he died on June 30, 1785.
