Jackie McLean was an American jazz alto saxophonist and also an educator. His personal style included short phrases or irregular length.
Born in New York City in 1931, Jackie McLean was an American jazz alto saxophonist. As a teen he recorded with Miles Davis, playing "Dig," which became his theme song, then a jazz standard. His personal style included short phrases or irregular length. His impressive solos hit the rafters. He founded the African American music department at the Hartt School in 1980, serving as its first director.
